Career
Called 2013. Edward Bennett practises in family law and that relating to vulnerable adults. He has extensive experience in disputes with an international dimension.
He is on the editorial board of the International Family Law Journal and was its General Editor for five years before that. In 2015, he was Young Family Law Barrister of the Year.
He is a contributing editor to Clarke Hall and Morrison on Children and is an editor of the seventh edition of Blomfield & Brooks: A Practical Guide to Family Proceedings (2022).
He has been admitted as an advocate in the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia having been instructed in the first application to leave to remove from that jurisdiction in its history.
To date, he has appeared in the following family cases: International Child Abduction (Hague Conventions and Inherent Jurisdiction), Leaves to permanently and temporarily remove from the jurisdiction, Forced marriage, Surrogacy, International Adoption, International Child Maintenance Forum disputes, Public and Private Law Children, and Part III Children Act 1989 Judicial Reviews.
Edward is a member of the legal working group of Reunite, the leading child abduction charity in the UK.
Edward sits as a Fee-Paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber).
Alongside his legal practice, Edward worked as a Research Assistant at the College of Arms for two years.
